The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MECC), represented by the Marine Protection Department, has recorded the presence of a seahorse, locally known as “Bu Zizi,” within the Khor Al Adaid Reserve in the Sealine Beach area. The seahorse is considered a rare marine species of significant ecological importance. The sighting was conducted during a field survey conducted to document marine species and monitor their natural habitats.
The monitoring activities confirmed the presence of seahorses in seagrass meadows, which constitute one of their primary natural habitats. Field observations also indicated that the site is in good environmental condition and provides suitable habitat for the continued presence of this species. Furthermore, diving teams reported no visible signs of encroachment or direct environmental impacts affecting the area.
The Ministry emphasized that the seahorse is an ecologically important marine species and serves as a valuable bioindicator of a healthy marine ecosystem. Its presence within the Khor Al Adaid Reserve highlights the ecological significance of natural habitats, particularly seagrass meadows, in supporting marine biodiversity.
The Ministry further stressed the importance of conserving these habitats, minimizing practices that could negatively impact marine life, and strengthening monitoring and protection efforts to ensure the sustainability of marine species and habitats while preserving the rich marine biodiversity of the State of Qatar.
