The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MECC), represented by the Wildlife Development Department, organized an environmental event to rehabilitate Umm Al Jarathim Rawdah, as part of the Ministry’s program aimed at rehabilitating Qatar’s rawdahs, conserving natural vegetation cover, and enhancing biodiversity in the country’s terrestrial environments.
The event included the planting of approximately 500 native wild seedlings, in addition to the sowing of around 5,000 seeds of native plant species suited to the natural characteristics of the rawdah. This initiative forms part of an integrated plan aimed at increasing vegetation density, enhancing opportunities for the natural regeneration of wild plants, and improving environmental conditions that support biodiversity.
In this context, Mr. Adel Mohammed Al Yafei, Head of the Plant Wildlife Section at the Wildlife Development Department, affirmed that the Ministry continues to implement its programs for the rehabilitation of Qatar’s rawdahs based on scientific and technical principles that contribute to protecting local vegetation and conserving natural resources. He noted that such initiatives support the State’s efforts to combat land degradation and enhance the sustainability of terrestrial ecosystems.
Al Yafei added that involving community members and volunteers in such events contributes to raising environmental awareness and promoting environmental culture among various segments of society. It also underscores the importance of community participation in protecting the environment and preserving the country’s natural assets.
He further explained that rawdah rehabilitation projects form part of national efforts to protect biodiversity and restore natural habitats for wild plants, in line with the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030 in the areas of environmental development, sustainability, and the conservation of natural resources for future generations.
The event was attended by a number of Ministry employees, volunteers, and individuals interested in environmental affairs, as part of efforts to strengthen community partnership and promote the concepts of environmental responsibility towards natural resources.
The event is part of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to restore natural ecosystems and improve the condition of rawdahs, which represent some of the most important natural habitats for plants and wildlife in the State. The Ministry implements specialized environmental rehabilitation programs using native plant species suited to Qatar’s environmental conditions, thereby contributing to enhancing vegetation cover and improving the quality of natural habitats
